Yesterday morning while Mom was at church, I decided to make some biscuits with Bisquick. After getting spoiled on those frozen Grands, this stuff was just like eating flour and water. It was so bland and the texture was nothing to be happy about.
The recipe made 5, so while she was still gone I had one with apple butter. Then when she got home, I made us a “sausage,” egg, and cheese biscuit with one and put pumpkin and apple butters on the other.
Yeah, that’s mustard. I was feeling mustardy. A little bit later, I had some apple cider…this stuff is so good. It’s from World Market, and it’s perfectly spiced.
Mom and I had THE BEST grocery shopping trip. I’ll bet most of the people who read this blog can identify with loving the grocery store! It was one of those times where you have to stock back up on stuff but also get stuff for the week ahead, so it turns into a giant ordeal. The BEST part of the trip was that we got a PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE to begin with! The Kroger near us has a Starbucks inside, so we brought our travel mugs (for our fabulous 5¢ apiece discount – ha!) and sipped them the whole time we were there. ‘Twas magnificent. (No photo, though…I was juggling a bunch of stuff and didn’t want to take the time, if I’m being completely honest ) On the way home, I may or may not have, but definitely did, partake in a pumpkin and white chocolate cookie. I got some of these last year and they – I hate this term – rocked my socks off. We froze a bunch and have been rationing them all year, (I feel like I’ve typed that very sentence before…pardon if I’m repeating myself) so I’m glad to replenish our stock.
When we got home, I had some work to do around the house but wanted a beer. Mom and I split this Leinenkugel Oktoberfest…
…into a snazzy wine glass.
A little while later, we decided we’d go on a bike ride. It was pretty chilly yesterday, so I bundled up and put on a giant college hoodie…it was still freaking cold while we were riding. I was so naive to think that doing stuff outside in cold weather would be great, perfect, awesome, but I realized I’m really going to have to layer if I want to run and bike outside this winter! When we got back, the only thing I could think of was hot apple cider. I took the rest of the apple cider I had sipped on this morning and dumped it in a pot with some whole cloves and cinnamon sticks and simmered it for a little while.
And while I waited, I had a couple of these…
I’m not a huge fan of candy corn (or any non-chocolate candy, for that matter), but for a few weeks out of the year, I crave it. I like the pumpkins slightly better than the corn if for nothing more than their whimsy, but I don’t discriminate.
So the rest of the cider didn’t yield too much, but here was my mug’s worth:
And we each had half a bagel with that pumpkin cream cheese spread from yesterday. This stuff is dangerous.
Aaaand moving right along to my (quite random) dinner, I had crunchy shrimp sushi…
…and another one of my amazing paninis and French onion soup.
I have to address the shrimp thing – I don’t eat meat (every once in awhile I’ll have something like a sandwich with meat on it, but it’s got to be a very special thing, not just any old ham’n’cheese). I don’t like eating seafood, because I can’t be hypocritical and say “I don’t eat animals, but fish is ok” because I have a pet fish myself, and I just can’t reconcile the two roles of FOOD and PET. For some twisted reason, I can justify shrimp and crab better than I can fish, and I don’t like that. I wish I would just say “no animals” altogether, but maybe it’s because I like the sushi too much? Because shellfish aren’t “cute”? I have no idea. Also eggs – I’m ok with them, but I would like to start buying free-range or whatever is most ethical…I need to do some research on that. I aspire to be vegan one day, but the situation I’m in right now (living with parents) doesn’t lend itself to eating wholly vegan. Plus I need to get better about making sure I get complete proteins before I can realistically make the switch.
So that’s that.
Dessert was the last of the pumpkin pie.
Already half-mangled. My apologies.
And so far today, I’ve had an egg and cheese bagel sandwich. I’m so glad we got bagels at the store yesterday!
On to busywork…woohoo [sarcasm].
PS – Sorry if you got caught up in my email-to-post drama in the wee small hours of this morning. That was ridonkulous.
